Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 2026
TL;DR
We don't collect your data. This website has no tracking, no analytics, no cookies. The Sygnet application is peer-to-peer with no central servers. We can't see your messages, your contacts, or your activity because we don't have them.
Introduction
Sygnet is built on the principle that privacy is a fundamental right, not a feature to be traded away. This policy describes our commitment to your privacy for both this website and the Sygnet application.
This Website
No Tracking
This website does not use any tracking technologies. We don't use:
- Google Analytics or any other analytics service
- Advertising pixels or tracking beacons
- Social media widgets that track you
- Third-party scripts of any kind
- Fingerprinting or device identification
No Cookies
This website does not set any cookies. None. Not even "essential" ones. We've designed the site to work without any client-side state.
Server Logs
Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (IP address, timestamp, requested URL) for a limited time for security purposes. We don't access these logs for analytics or tracking. If you're concerned about IP logging, access this site via our Tor mirror.
No Third-Party Resources
All fonts, styles, and scripts are self-hosted. We don't load anything from Google, Facebook, Cloudflare CDN, or any other third party. Your browser makes no requests to external domains when visiting this site.
The Sygnet Application
Decentralized Architecture
Sygnet is a peer-to-peer messaging application. There are no central servers. We don't operate servers that store your messages, contacts, or metadata. We literally cannot access your data because we don't have it.
Sygnet routes all traffic through Tor and is committed to running middle relay nodes to contribute capacity back to the Tor network. We don't just depend on privacy infrastructure -- we invest in it.
What Stays on Your Device
- Your identity: Your cryptographic keys never leave your device
- Your messages: Stored locally in an encrypted database
- Your contacts: The Web of Trust you build is yours alone
- Your settings: All preferences stored locally
Network Activity
When using Sygnet:
- DHT queries: To find contact endpoints, Sygnet queries a distributed hash table. These queries are routed through the DHT network, not our servers.
- Tor traffic: All network traffic routes through Tor, hiding your IP address from recipients and observers.
- Direct connections: Messages are sent directly to recipients. We never see them.
No Telemetry
Sygnet does not phone home. We don't collect crash reports, usage statistics, or any telemetry. The application does not contact our servers for any reason.
Update Checks
Sygnet may check for updates by fetching a version manifest from our servers. This is a simple HTTPS request that doesn't include any identifying information. You can disable update checks in settings.
Data We Don't Have
To be completely clear, we do not have:
- Your phone number (we don't require one)
- Your email address (we don't require one)
- Your name or any personal information
- Your messages or their content
- Who you message or when
- Your IP address or location
- Your device information
Legal Requests
Because we don't collect user data, we have nothing to provide in response to legal requests. We cannot produce messages we've never seen, identify users we don't know, or provide metadata we don't collect.
If we receive a legal request, we will:
- Respond truthfully that we don't have the requested data
- Challenge requests we believe to be overbroad or unlawful
- Publish a transparency report if legally permitted
Children's Privacy
Sygnet is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. Since we don't collect personal information from anyone, this is straightforward.
International Users
Since we don't collect personal data, GDPR, CCPA, and similar regulations have limited applicability. We support these regulations' goals and exceed their requirements by not collecting data in the first place.
Changes to This Policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. For significant changes, we'll provide notice through our blog or community channels. Our commitment to not collecting your data will not change.

Verify Our Claims
Don't trust us? Good. Sygnet uses published cryptographic protocols built on proven, well-studied primitives. Audit the network traffic. Inspect the protocol behavior. Check the math. We're pursuing independent security audits and will publish the full results.
